Hi everyone, January has blown by and February is pushing through so its time for another

Fairy Baby!

This little sweetie pie has teal blue hair and a cream and teal blue blanket. It will be listed this Friday in my Etsy shop so you can take it or its brother or sister home with you for Valentine's day! If you would like it to be a little girl I will be happy to add the little flowers on the side of the head, just drop me a note.

Hi everyone!

I hope you have all been having a wonderful January. The weather here is finally back to normal, 77 degrees,(which is great for sculpting!) after a few days of cold weather. Cold in Florida means 40's and 50's. Here are my newest fairy babies that will be up on Etsy this weekend. I wanted to give my friends a peek before they go to my Etsy shop.

They are approx. 6 inches tall polymer clay head and soft weighted body. I use different shades of clay for the different types of fairies. They have been painted with heat set oils. They are adorned with shells, feathers, moss and sometimes flowers and crystals. The fabrics and hair are all hand dyed and each and everyone is a handmade original that can be hung by the top of the cord or placed anywhere you want.

Here they are!

The first one is a Nature fairy baby and it is swaddled in a creamy tan color head dress and wrapped in a forest green blanket, this baby has brown hair.

The little girl is a Flowering Tree fairy in cotton candy colors with vibrant pink hair, white head dress, pink flower and pink blanket.

I have had many requests for my fairy/pixie babies but until now you could only

purchase them at benefit auctions or win one as a gift.

I am happy to announce that I will be offering them and accepting commissions

for them on my ETSY STORE!

The first one has been reserved by Rosa and she has requested similar colors to a

previous one I made.

One of a kind fairy/pixie babies.

They are approx. 5.5 inch tall. The head is hand sculpted from a blend of polymer clays then baked over an armature. It is then painted with oil paints and acrylic washes to give it a natural muddied baby skin tone. Hand dyed tibetan lambs wool is then applied lock by lock for the hair. The body is soft cotton that has been weighted and swathed in different layers of cotton and gauze that I have hand dyed.

The doll is not removable from the blanket.

It can be displayed as is or hung from its cord from a hook or a little branch.

It will arrive with an adorable one of a kind certificate as well.

Freckles or none

Flowers and crystals will be added onto the side of the head for little girls upon request.

I cannot reproduce my dolls but I can make a similar color combo.

HAPPY SOON TO BE 2012!!

WOW, another year has come and gone. 2012 is only a few days away and I hope all of you are enjoying this time of year.

Here in Florida we have had 80 degree weather every day with high humidity EXCEPT FOR TODAY!!! Our first"cold front" for the season, finally it's in the seventies and the humidity is lower than usual. I LOVE IT! wish it could be like this all year along.

Here is my piece for the ADO quarterly challenge, going GOTH!

She's a little goth girl that wants to make you smile by offering you her little purple bouquet. Her armature is wire and aluminum foil under stuffed and weighted cloth body with sculpted head, hands and boots.

She is 7.25 inches tall from her headpiece down to her sculpted boots. She is made of a blend of polymer clays then cured. Her make up is softly gothic washed and painted in heat set oils and acrylics. Her eyes are white jade that has been painted and varnished and given a smeared eyeliner look.

She is wigged in fine red mohair and given a sweet innocent little bob to accentuate her little chubby cheeks. She has freckles on her face and her chubby hands.Her little costume is all hand made in silks, tulle, netting, cotton and vintage laces. She wears striped black and cream stockings as well as the sleeves under her dress.

Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Thanksgiving is upon us again and I want to take a moment to say that I am grateful and thankful for so many blessings in my life.

I am grateful for having work while so many don't,

good mental health in a time of stress

a close family when so many are alone.

I am thankful that most of my family can come over my little house for a

big meal that my amazing HUBBY cooks every year!(you're the best!!)

I get to hear mom and grandma tell funny old stories until tears

fall down my cheeks and my side hurts from laughing.

My kids get to see 4 generations celebrating together.

I am surrounded by people that I love and that love me.

In the spirit of the holiday season approaching I have been making some

primitive paper mache cuties for an art fair but I just couldn't wait to show you.

They are Faith, Hope, Love and Charity.

Faith and Hope are 9 inches tall Charity is a 15 inch angel and

Love is a 6 inch bride and groom cake topper that comes on a paper cake stand.

They will be dressed in new, vintage and antique fabrics.

These are spoken for but I will have more finished soon and

photos and info available for those that are interested

in purchasing a custom doll, angel, or a cake topper couple.

For all of you that will be celebrating Thanksgiving this Thursday,

Tragic Ending Theme

Here's a small piece I just made for the Tragic Ending Challenge.

It is Ariel, the Little Mermaid, turning to foam.

I always thought it was such a sad story (Hans Christian A, not Disney version)

so naturally

it was the first thing that came to mind for this challenge.

Here is the first step

I sculpted and painted the face

Then onto sculpting the "water" and "foam"

Last is painting and giving wet effect to waves and foam

I hope you can see the bubbles

and the tears in her eyes.

I have one more really simple piece I'm working on for this week

so I will be back to post this weekend.

Completed!!Dia de los Muertos and Marionette Challenge!

Here they are ready for the show!

This one of a kind little puppet master is 7.75 inches tall from the bottom of her boots to the top of her handmade lace head piece that is covered in flowers, pom poms and crystals.

Her hair is fine english viscose.

The paper theater is made in an old fashioned style with 3D paper panels and is 4.5 inches tall.

It has been laser printed onto heavy card stock and shaded with acrylic washes.

The skelly doll is strung with red thread and can be moved.

The paper mask is also laser printed onto heavy card stock and decorated with paper flowers and silk ribbon.

She will be listed on etsy this Sunday.

Dia de los Muertos and Marionette Challenge!

I am participating in 2 ADO challenges this month, The Marionette and Dia de los Muertos

(Day of the Dead) theme.

I made a polymer clay doll holding a tiny day of the dead

marionette made of paper-clay with tiny flowers made of cold porcelain.

That way I have both themes in one piece:)

Here are the WIP's-

the tiny doll is almost 2 inches tall

The cold porcelain flowers are tiny!

Here are the hands and boots as well as the painted face.

Next comes making a foam, cloth and wire body

Then the making of a dress with bloomers and stockings as well as wigging and making a mask for the girl and a small theatre as well.

Im already 90% done I just need to tie the skelly's strings to the girls fingers and add some details to the whole piece.

I will upload the photos tomorrow.

Uruguay wins Copa America!!

I undertand that many of you don't follow soccer but if you do...

Uruguay won Paraguay by 3-0 and establishes as the King of the Copa America

Thanks to player Luis Suarez and captain Diego Forlan for their great play in the final match of Copa America 2011.With this ,Uruguay wins Copa America a total of 15 times and this is the highest record in the history of Copa America.

I am so happy for Uruguay!!!

This is such an honor for all Uruguayans throughout the world.

Painting with FIRE!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending an enameling workshop taught by Barbara Lewis of Painting with Fire. Her work is stunning and what a great teacher too! She supplied us with everything we needed to make lots of pretty enameled beads. We were a rowdy group of ladies working with some serious heat!

I learned so many techniques with Barbara and quickly lost my fear of having a torch sitting right in front of me.

I have taken one other class in metal jewelry before this and it was also with a fantastic teacher, Stephanie Lee of Homesteaders Metalsmithing. I think by using what I have learned in both classes I will be able to come up with some cute gifts for friends and family, you know its never too early to prepare for the holidays;)!

Barbara Lewis has a great blog with fabulous pictures and tutorials. She also sells all of the materials necessary to get you started on enameling. Also her book will be out soon, you can preview some of it on her site or at amazon.

My Internet is back!

Sorry for the long pause on the blog. My internet has been crazy for a few weeks and every time I try to go on it drops. I call for help, it gets fixed but later it goes AGAIN. Very hard to get any work done.

Now that I've vented, I'm working on the sets for my kids book as well as some of the characters.

I am making the majority of it in 1/6 scale with a few pieces in 1/12th miniature scale. I think I'm going to need a bigger place to work in, lol. Are you reading this Hunny??

Here are a just a few pieces of the chess board my daughter(who's graduating high school next month!!!YAY!!) and I worked on for her senior art project. I was so proud to see her working in clay again.

(Bad pictures were taken on my old I phone, I still need a great new camera, any suggestions??)

Here it is her homage to the Alice in Wonderland movie of the 1950's.

She did the majority of the sculpting, I tweaked it here and there, she painted while I blushed skin and we costumed and wigged together. I showed her how to make the armatures and mix the clay. We then built a black base, covered it with miniature faux grass and flowers like a garden and placed the blue and white board in the center of the garden.

My kids stopped asking to sculpt or draw and paint with mom when they became teenagers, art wasn't fun anymore, so this was really special to me.

I realized I miss teaching.

As soon as I have some free time, I think I will teach sculpting and crafts again.

This is a time for renewal and rebirth. Nature's color palette changes.

I have done my spring cleaning and re-decorated my office space to make it

lighter and brighter. My projects have taken on a lighter palette as well.

March ALREADY!!

WOW, I can't believe how fast the days go by. I have been working on some Graphic Design projects as well as my book but here are a few pics of the past few weeks.

I won a lovely ATC painted card and tag from Sam Bonney of Cornish Contemporary for OWOH.

I scoured the beaches for shells but mainly came across these beautiful jellyfish, we also had a huge shark migration. YIKES!

I made a miniature baby in a nest.

I also visited one of my favorite stores, Anthropologie, to check out the new Spring window displays. They are so creative and a constant source of inspiration, and the clothing is adorable too!

and last but certainly not least a big warm WELCOME!! to all of my new friends and I hope everyone is having a great March so far!!

MY FIRST TINY COTTAGE (1/4 scale)

Heres a picture of the miniature cottage I built this past weekend at a Miniatures event.

I have some experience in 1/12th scale but this 1/4 scale is the smallest I have ever worked in.

Because of the size, I really thought it was going to be 10 times more difficult but as it turns out its almost the same and its FASTER!!

I also wanted to see if it was possible for me to get some good detail in and I am happy to

say that it is. I am in love with this new diminutive size and I will be working in it alot more now! The whole piece is around 5.5 inches tall, including the base. I still have some details to add (leaves, plants, nest and swag) but I couldn't wait to share

SMALL STUFF 4 coming soon!!

Heres a first look at what I made for the upcoming

Small Stuff 4 show and some of the process pics.

Its a mixed media illustration of my girls in a Nouveau inspired style. I made the circular background in photoshop and then colored it in ink and prismacolor pencils. The girls are made of cardstock as well as the hair that has been cut out, colored and shaded with prismacolor pencils. The whole piece was sprayed to seal the colored pencil. Then it is all glued onto an ivory mat on an 8x8 frame with a glass front.

All work comes with certificate of authenticity.

I was really getting into the holiday spirit as I made these and to my delight they ended up looking like angels.

I hope everyone is getting in the mood for Thanksgiving, I know I am!!

New Show info! SMALL STUFF 4!!

Oh, the weather outside is....still hot.

I hope the weather is starting to get nicer for all of you. Its finally down to the high 80's here in South Fla. Halloween is this weekend and the Farmers Market begins next week!! Love it!!

I wanted to share with you the next show I am participating in.

It's called Small Stuff 4 and it will have a lot of wonderful artists selling small works of art at very reasonable prices to give art admirers the opportunity to begin collecting or to purchase unique gifts for the Holidays!

I have made 2 mixed media illustrations that I will be happy to show you next week.

The show will run from November 21-January 8th 2011, so there is plenty of time to buy someone you love, including yourself, a great gift!!

As some of you probably know already, I love making pixie/fairy babies as

special gifts because to me they represent so many of the good things in the world.

This past Thursday I had the pleasure of donating 3 of them to a great cause,

Breathe and Believe, the Christopher Ricardo Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

My favorite time of the year is fast approaching. There is something wonderful about Autumn that lifts my spirit. Unfortunately , South Florida is not a great place to witness the changes in season, but I have fond childhood memories of it.

A great big THANKS!! to everyone that visited the Peculiar Playmates show!! It was such fun.

I am preparing some work for the next Small Stuff 4 Show, 2-D and 3-D. Can't wait to show you guys...but I must.

Hi again! I hope everyone is doing great, I was working on the kids back to school shopping when a friend asked me some background info on the works I just did for Peculiar Playmates and I realized I didn't add any info and so I would like to apologize for that.I get caught up in the process and then the pictures and forget that you can't read my mind.

This is a long post but here it goes...

The girls I make are in that moment in time when we are still innocent but are aware of the dangers of life. They still want to believe in fairytales, true love and happy endings. They see the reality of everything around them a little bit different than others do. They are always thinking and dreaming.

They believe in "magic" or the supernatural, they have a sense of humor, a moral compass, but they are still learning and falter at times!

Often alone because they are this way, they choose to care for things that maybe others wouldn't value.

Nina sees a life growing inside of the egg, it is the symbol for the universe and creation, she knows what she holds in her hands is precious, so she treats it that way. Her little hat represents a halo for her good intentions, and her blue dress represents the heavens, she is bare foot because she wants to be well grounded and connected to the earth.

Veronica has a dilemma, a common one, she has grown to care for her little snails but her curiosity for the "fruits of knowledge" is quite strong. She has a book for cooking escargot(sorry I didn't photograph it well, but she has it) and as a student of life she wonders if its worth it. Could she bring herself to sacrifice one of them in her quest for knowledge and experience. (snails represent eternity and labyrinths her laced up green ribbons are doubt)

Lila is the one with the cephalopod on her head (they represent cleverness). She wears the colors of innocence and appears to be playing a child's game of tea party, but by the style of the clothing you can see that she is changing, no longer a child. She is eager to know what comes next and is reading her tea leaves as well as Cely's to maybe catch a glimpse of what the future holds.

Maggie is the archetypal nurturing good mother and sacrificing soul. She is all in white representing purity, and silk for strength, her pink sash is her "cord" connecting her to this world. She holds her delicate babies on a silk string so she can carry and protect them until they are ready to enter this world. She stands very still and allows them to practice walking on her and spreading their wings until they are ready for flight. She wears a fur shawl to cover them from the harsh weather and hide them from danger. Her silk dress spun from the cocoons that they have discarded and left behind to remind them that she is a part of them and they can always come home. She treasures them

Agatha and Buzzy are what they are, creepy cute and funny!!

Agatha is that little mischievous child, that wants what she wants, when she wants it is NOW!!!

Buzzy was once a feared,scavenger and hunter, but she has been worn down by this child to the point that she allows herself to be dressed up in ribbons and bows and taken on walks on a tiny string leash which she could easily rip apart with her beak, but ughh, why bother!!

Buzzy's feathers represent TRUTH, truth is, I know at certain times in my life i have been each of these characters, Maybe you have been too??

A Farewell to Hannie Sarris

I just learned that dollmaker Hannie Sarris passed away a few days ago. She was an amazing artist and an inspiration to me.

Alice in Wonderland at Last! (95% complete)

I am honored to present my Alice in Wonderland

Like I always say, I apologize for the quality, I am a poor photographer but I try

(picture 2 and 5 enlarge, the rest don't want to cooperate)

I usually don't take or show pictures of my commission work because some of my collectors prefer their pieces to be private.

Except for this one, YAY!. A close friend asked that I not post it until today so it can remain a surprise. Here's a quick lookie-loo at my Alice. She is 95% complete, just needs her hair done and a hat of her own(she borrowed this one from another sculpted girl). That will be finished and handed over tonight. Alice is almost 10 inches tall and a full sculpt except for the elbows and shoulders so that she can gently pose her arms. I was told she will be holding a little pig in a blanket so I sculpted the hands in a pose that will allow for that.

I had a great time putting together all of the bits and pieces to make her special. I love, love details! I could have easily gotten carried away with this one, where talkin' furniture, pottery, scenery, the works! Luckily the request was for just the doll.

Anyway, back to work!! I have a gift to make for a friend and then some show pieces to start on.

New Studio for 2010-Update

Here is an update on my new workspace. I have painted the once light blue walls a richer shade of blue green and the white ceiling is now a dirty off white parchment color. I purchased a few pieces of furniture. The dresser was $52 at Salvation Army, a table with 4 chairs was from a garage sale for $45 as was a cute tiny antique desk for $60, odds and ends $20. That is $177 so far and I am almost done. I am painting the chairs and table because the dark yellow is not my style. I will post the new pics this weekend when I finish painting and hanging some pictures.

Also i will begin working on a commission piece that is long overdue, Alice in Wonderland.

If I finish it in time(xfingers crossedx, Feb 24)it will be a miracle because i am still gathering supplies! I will post the progress pics when I begin after Valentines Day.

PMC and a New Work Space

I hope everyone has had a great January so far!

This past week I had my first experience working on Silver PMC, Precious Metal Clay.

To me it's a combination of pottery clay, paper clay and polymer clay because it is sticky and needs to air dry, it can be formed and stamped and baked but it takes a much higher temperature to cure, were talkin' kiln here.

I made myself a dog tag and it was a lot of fun! I really liked that you can play with the color of the silver with chemicals.

Also-This week I decided that I would take over one more place in the house to work privately.

The space I work in now is great but I share it with everyone including our three dogs. If you search my blog you will see exactly what my work space looks like. Its very IKEA.

The new space is quite small but it has a large window for natural light and a door that I can close and work uninterrupted(or so I tell myself). Since the room will be only inhabited by myself I am going to put some of my Fractured Fairytale touches into it.

Some dingy color on the walls, artwork, a handful of crystals, a stack of old books, some tarnished silver and colors and textures that inspire me.

As a challenge to myself( and my budget) the majority of this will be put together from discount stores, flea market and thrift store finds.

I LOVE MINIS!

Just a quick hello and picture of a project I was working on this weekend.

I attended my first miniature festival in Sarasota. I met so many wonderful artists and collectors. I was there to take a mini class by the extremely talented Valerie Casson all the way from France.

We made a "Romantic Lady's desk and chair". She supplied us with some wonderful print outs, a beautiful pink vase sculpted by her as well as a tiny little deer statue. Her materials and instructions were great. We ran out of time before I could even get half way done so she actually took the time and gave me a quick one on one lesson on how to finish it at home. After that, we attended a gathering at Molly Cromwell's house, she was wonderful as well.

It was such an honor and a pleasure to meet Valerie. Now I have a new pal in France!

Here is a picture of what I ended up making at home. I didn't like how my scroll work came out so I sanded the whole piece and did a decopage number on it and then aged it.

I gave it a Michal Negrin vibe(and background!). One project down many more to go!!

I wanted to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

I am so excited to start on this new year that I have already made my Wish List for 2010, some people call them resolutions but I like putting a more positive spin on it. I have taken on a few commissions that will involve some new techniques for me. I have a show schedule that I will post soon and I look forward to showing everyone my progress. I welcome and request your comments.

I want to say THANK YOU to all of you that take the time to leave me comments and visit me on a regular basis. I am very humbled to see that so many people take an interest in my work.

Now, as a tradition in my family, I will sweep and wash away all of the negative energy from my home and eat lentils and grapes for New Years!!!

Hi everyone! First off-THERE IS NUDITY HERE!!! so I apologize to those that are offended in any way-that is not my intention. Now, on with the show-Here are some WIP pics of the work for Small Stuff 3. These pictures are just horrible and not accurate in color. I was in such a hurry to turn them in by deadline that I forgot to purchase a new camera to photograph my final work. I will ask Amanda to send me pics when she gets a chance.

What you see here is the nearly completed work to at least give you an idea of my work for this show.

"Death of the Moth Queen"

and "Lamenting the Queen I and II".

Descriptions:

The Moth Queen is approximately 5 inches tall, made of polymer clay over a wire armature and colored with washes of heat set oil paints. Her wings, which are attached to her back, are made of stiffened custom printed fabric, feathers and wire. Her beautiful black hair, that is styled in a multitude of braids around her head, is tibetan lambs wool and fine english viscose. Although not visible in the WIP pictures-She has a pin inserted in her mid section from which a small trace of blood appears to be coming out as well as a trickle of blood on the corners of her mouth and on her back next to her wings where a wire was impaled to keep the Queen in place. She is mounted onto linen cloth with a slight cushion to protect her from damage and framed in an antique brass frame that has been aged. Also a small plaque bears the entomology label with her information.

The other 2 works, Lamenting the Queen I and II, are graphite and just a hint of colored pencil on paper that has been tea stained. They are both set in antique frames that were aged to perfectly coordinate with the Moth Queen.

For those of you that like a little story behind a piece, here goes:

My version of the Moth Queen is based on the actual moth known in many cultures as the "Black Witch Moth" and is believed to be a bad omen. Unfortunately for her she was found moments after her demise just outside of Kensington Gardens in England by an all too eager entomologist that thought she would make a wonderful addition to his collection. When he picked her up to study her wing pattern, to his surprise, he realized what a rare specimen he had in his possession. He took her to his laboratory, penned fastidious notes and measurements for he realized that she had already begun to slowly disintegrate. Upon returning to the spot where he had found her to search for more evidence, he witnessed what appeared to be 2 small creatures resembling young women weeping. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief and when he looked again they were gone.

I hope you enjoyed the preview and the story .

Hi everyone and thanks for visiting my blog!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween or Harvest Day.

A big THANK YOU!!! to those of you that have visited Bear and Bird Gallery for the Candy Apples and Razor Blades show, there is still time until mid-November to see all ofthe great artists that participated or to purchase a piece of art.

I have been working on my new pieces for the Small Stuff 3 show coming up in November 22, I will post them next week after I hand them over to the gallery.

In the meantime here are a few pics of my face ups done on my Ball Jointed Dolls (BJD's). The large one is a Bobobie Sprite in white and the small one is a planet doll Tara in white.

They were done in a big hurry (about 45 minutes!)because I just couldn't wait to see what they looked like behind all of that white resin. I made the Tara wig out of mohair but I need to fix it and style it better. As soon as I sew them some outfits and get them entirely blushed i will take some final shots and post them.

Margaret Sweet and Dolly Boo!

Here are the final pictures of my Halloween artdoll Margaret Sweet and her little Dolly Boo.

Margaret and Boo are now safe and sound at Bear and Bird Gallery awaiting their show dates.

So I think its okay to show her pictures now.

Margaret is one of my Creepy Cuties and is a OOAK (0ne of a kind) original artdoll hand sculpted by me, Rosanna Pereyra, with no molds ever used or taken of her.

She is approximately 6 inches tall and her little Dolly Boo is about 1 and 1/2 inches tall. They are both sculpted from polymer clay and both have hand painted glass eyes.

Margaret's hair is made of mohair that I have dyed orange. All of my dolls are dressed in a mix of new, vintage and antique fabrics(in this case a hanky and a leather opera glove) from the early 1900's. Her shoes are leather. Her Candy Apple is sculpted and has tiny "razor blades" inside.

She comes with a wooden coffin that I have distressed and painted to look old with a sculpted skelly face and some paper roses.

She can be purchased at Bear and Bird Gallery during the show dates or through me after the show ends.

My Halloween Creepy Cutie "Poor Little Margaret"

Hi AGAIN!

Here are the WIP's I mentioned yesterday of my sad little clown Margaret.

She is a Creepy Cutie which is a nice or mild way of saying she has passed on. My Creepy Cuties have a more exaggerated style which gives me an opportunity to express a less serious side of my art(very liberating). This was one of the inspiration photos behind the little clown doll and of course the name of the art show was the driving force for the whole idea.

I will post some more WIP pics of Poor Little Margaret tomorrow and this weekend I will post the finished doll. Come back soon!!

The kids are back in school after a great summer and I am so glad that September is fast approaching!! Fall is my favorite time of year-the colors, the HOLIDAYS, the fashions and all. I didn't work much on the artdolls over the summer because of the sweltering heat but hopefully September will begin a much needed cooling down to maybe the low 90's or high 80's.

I can't wait to get busy on my art again!

I have been invited to participate in some art shows, which I am thrilled and honored to do, there is a halloween one and a small artwork show. I will be sharing the details and the work in stages but not the final product until the show dates.

Congrats to my friend Diane Keeler, her beautiful doll is on the cover of an Art doll magazine.

My new stash!

I just love Antique shows! Check out the stash I acquired this weekend, I'm in steampunk heaven!! I use these for jewelry that I wear, but if I make extras I will put them up for sale.

Sorry I haven't listed anything on Etsy- I am sold out right now and the 5 figures I am working on are for a show. It is very hard for me to sculpt in this hot and humid weather so I work very slow in summer. But I will have some things up as soon as I get a chance.

Hurricane Season is Here! AND my clay sucks!!

Hi everyone. Hurricane season is here again and that means HOT, HOT, HOT muggy days with tons of rain. I feel so bad for all of the tourists that come to south Florida and find out that this is our rainy season. I love the storms but I prefer them at night.

I will be at Bear and Bird this weekend making Teddies, I look forward to that. I LOVE miniatures and too many other things to mention (or find the time for) but this is what I was working on in the mean time.

Sorry but in this next paragraph I will be complaining:

I was so happy that I had sculpted 5 dolls, just the way I wanted!! I ever so gently put them in the oven for 20 minutes and to my horror, when the timer rang, every single one of them was BURNED!!! My settings are never touched and my thermostat was perfect so I knew this was the clay. This is of course my fault for not testing my batches of P**sculpt. I have received bad batches in the past that came out burned and thrown them away but I didn't test this last batch. I think I am done with this clay for a while. Now to begin all over again. Anyway, I feel better now that I got that off my chest-thanks for letting me vent.

BJD's and more

I'm working on a couple of different things. I love Ball Jointed Dolls (bjd's) but they are so pricey that I only have one, and its a bobobi sprite, (only $150). I would rather make my own.

Here's a look at a face up I did on a cheap plastic head just for practice and a leg that I worked on. I use dowels and wooden balls, sometimes I use styrofoam and wire, They are then placed in my doll cemetery where they serve as anatomical studies or reference. I figure one day I will make a complete one but for now just spare parts.

I used white sculpey for this demo leg and acrylic paint and pastels for the face up.

I cant believe its been a month!!

Wow, a month has passed since I wrote blogged. I have been so busy that I haven't had a chance to visit with my blog friends here. I hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers Day, I sure did.

I had all the great ladies in my life with me-Mom, Grandma, Sis, daughter and a family friend that is just as great as a grandma. The guys were all there too-even you Uncle Tio!!

We ate like Uruguayans!! Meat, meat, and sweets!! The theme must have been slightly nautical, welcoming the changing seasons, because all the ladies wore blue.

We finally welcomed the first rains that were so desperately needed!! Everything is beginning to bloom again. I have been hard at work on a big project for October and I will be teaching a tiny stuffed teddy class this summer.

I also made it onto Artful Blogging 2009 Summer Edition thanks to Lisa's One World One Heart (OWOH) event.

Bear and Bird and Steampunk

I had a great time at the opening of the Me Me Me show at Bear and Bird Gallery. A local reporter wrote this small piece about the gallery show and I was so honored that my work was called beautiful and that among 150+ artists I was mentioned. Also I want to thank Amanda for being so nice to me and my hubby. She really was the hostess with the mostess, she was awesome as she greeted everyone of us, chatted and snapped pics while the large crowds moved around her.

She has invited me to participate in a workshop this summer. I will keep you all posted.

On to another topic

This is what I do when stuff breaks in my house. I have had this broken camera in a storage box and I wanted to see what the inside looked like so I took it apart. I was amazed by all of the gears, it looks so steampunk!! For those of you that don't know what Steampunk means, its a merge of victorian, sci-fi, fantasy and technology. If I had the knowledge or skill, all my gear (electronics) would be done in a steampunk style.

This is a great example of steampunk!

Big Hugs to all my pals at ADO, here's my Creepy Cute Ophelia. This is my interpretation or vision of Ophelia after she was found dead in the shallow water among the flowers she licked to pick. She was placed gently on a hollow log until it was decided what would be done with her, was this a suicide over heartbreak or had she slipped and fallen to her death??

New WIP's(work in progress) and a Creepy Cutie Ophelia!

Hi again, I'm back with a few pics of what I'm currently working on. This first picture is a WIP of a piece I'm doing for the Bear and Bird gallery show Me!Me!Me! in April. This is NOT what I actually look like, she's a younger and better looking version of me: my alter ego. I have to finish the piece by this weekend!?@#AAAHHHHGG!! I love working under pressure!!

The next pic is a WIP for a great group I am now a member of ADO, Art Dolls Only, its a challenge with a Shakespeare theme. I chose to do a Creepy Cute version of the Ophelia from Millais painting, she was such a tragic character in Hamlet and in real life. In my version she still wears the silver dress and the violet garland around her neck but she has already passed.

As soon as the challenge is over she will be the first piece for sale on my new Etsy shop!!. I will sell most of my challenge pieces there, so please visit my shop when you can.

This is not the finished piece at all-this is just a rough idea for me to plan out the materials and the pose that I will do. This is only her actual face which still needs a lot of work.

I'm also working on a little orphan boy!!

The hard part is finally over! Now I just need a concrete drill bit to put up my huge inspiration board and the ribbon shelf and a few white curtains to hide the supplies. The unexpected benefit of working so hard was that I lost 3 pounds in one week!!! I'm also covered in bruises from all of the heavy moving and building of things, but who cares-I lost 3 pounds!! For those of you that don't know me, I started a diet to lose 50 pounds in October and since December the scale hasn't moved, so you can see how great I feel to be able to lose 3 pounds. "ONLY" 37 more to go-yay! My goal is that by Fall I "will" (positive mindset) be back into shape. At least now I can focus on my artwork again!!

BIG NEWS--I just set up an Etsy account and will begin selling some things there soon.

Update:Half Way There!!

I can finally see what I have and walk around!!! This is everything I am keeping. I will organize it this weekend. The rest has been pushed aside and will be removed/dropped off/donated this weekend. I am now ready for my trip to IKEA this Saturday. Its an hour away so I made a list of everything I need and in what isle it is located so I will "hopefully" only be there a short while. I can't wait to finish so I can get back to my artwork and my deadlines.

Clean Up!

I am usually very organized, I label things and there is a place for everything in my house.

Sometimes I organize according to size and color too. I have learned to not get upset when the "others" (my family) don't put things where they belong. They say I am OCD I say I am ADD and I need things in the same place otherwise I will never find them.

So with that said......

It all began when i went in search of an article I thought I had saved in a binder-I started searching everywhere for it and before I knew it, my space looked like this-And, after all that I forgot why I was looking for in the first place!!

Here is my space!!!

I am walled off by the bookcases from the kids side so my space feels extremely cramped.

I began going through my stuff to see what I have.

Either my stuff has been multiplying or I have multiple personalities!!! Every time I look there is another box with a whole new pile of stuff to sort through. Do I really have this many books and magazines!! Where did all of these fabrics and ribbons come from and where were they when I needed them?? When did I become a serious scrapbooker???? I must have had every intention of doing so when my kids were little because I have a bunch of papers, stickers, albums and stamps that I have never used just taking up valuable space. The funny thing is now I only scrapbook digitally.

I am really glad I am finally doing this. For me "cleaning house" is good for the mind, body and soul. Its time to let go of some of the things that I have held on to for so many years.

I wish some of my art buddies lived nearby so they could rummage through the stuff. My mom is coming by later to stake her claim on some artwork and some decorations. I am donating the bookcases and desks. The fabrics and papers are probably going to my grandma and her buds so they can make some stuff too.

I don't know how much money I have wasted over the years on extra stuff that I don't need.

Now I strive to simplify my life. I have started inside my house-I believe this is a step in that direction.

THE PLAN

Keep everything organized and functional so I can work

-I am keeping only what I really use and need.

-I will put to better use the white shelf system from ELFA- Its adjustable, it holds a ton of stuff and it's removable

-I have 2 very tall desks from Pier1 but I am only keeping one for me, the other goes to the kids side of the room. My desk will house a lot on the sides of it and underneath it.

-Buy a regular height desk to work on from IKEA with a "good" chair from Office Max.

-Conceal the wall with all of my supplies with a white curtain or something like that.

-I also found some great bookcases at IKEA called Billy that can be customized and a little storage unit on casters that has a bunch of wide shallow drawers.

I will take pictures of the progress and put it up this weekend.

If I order the stuff from IKEA today, they should arrive around the 2nd on March.

That gives me time to really clean out everything.

Malvina is 10 years old and comes to us from Louisiana after the unfortunate and mysterious death of her entire family. The child has been in the care of a family friend until now,

a Ms. M. Laveau. A very religious woman from what we have heard.

Malvina is quite the spectacular child. She is quiet and very well behaved. She keeps mostly to herself but loves to make prolonged eye contact. She stays occupied by playing cards.

She collects shells and feathers as well as tiny sticks that look remarkably like chicken bones.

She loves to read, and always has her little nose either in a book or the newspapers obituaries. She checks it on a regular basis to see if its anyone she knows-what a concerned and caring heart!!

She even keeps a locket with her Mum and Dad's hair in it.

As if all this wasn't enough she is also very creative. Malvina makes little dolls during arts and crafts time.

You will know she has taking a liking to you when she personalizes the doll with a lock of your hair or a scrap of your clothing. She keeps these dolls close to her heart, actually under her bed.

We believe this is how she "bonds" with others. This child is a true gem and we know that with the right family, she will continue to shine.

Malvina is almost 7 inches tall and made of polymer clay over a wire armature and cloth body.

She stands on her own and her boots are sculpted as well. Her eyes are painted white jade. Her hair is mix of tibetan lamb and english viscose. She wears a mix of new and vintage fabrics. Her hand is posed behind her so she can hide things from you. Her voodoo doll is hand sewn and painted. Her witchcraft book is hand made and stitched in the center. She has a few tarot cards and some letters and documents. Her glass jar has shells and a flower. Her skull image locket has her Mum and Dad's hair in it. Her trunk is fabric covered and stained to look old.

She will remain with me a few days until I figure out if I'm going to list her on ebay or etsy.

I hope everyone had a Happy New Year!! This week my little house will go back to its usual self, clean and simple with a nautical air. Now its time to return to work as I send the kiddies back to school. I have been working on a simple little wing tutorial for Gail at Mind Wide Open. I will let you know when its up and running. I have a series of 13 girls I am working on relating to Fairytales, ofcourse!!! I am very excited to get this going because I have been planning and gathering supplies for months. After that I have another little project planned(has a little bit to do with cultural beliefs/myths) and in between I will be presenting the little Orphans. I am also teaching myself Photoshop to incorporate everything I love into cool images and starting a personal journal to track my goals. 2009 is going to be a creative year for me, less planning more doing! PHEW!!

Now I gotta get back to work.

Wow, I can't believe that Christmas is in 3 days and that 2009 is only a week and a half away!

I have been working on many things. Sorry I can't yet show the commissioned piece, I was asked to wait until after the holidays so I don't ruin the surprise. So instead I will show you what I did on photoshopCS4. My uncle gave it to me a few days ago so I started messing with it and I LOVE IT!!!! I have only managed to make a few things because I didn't have too many images on my computer to work with and they took me forever to cut and put together...okay maybe it was 3 days. I used over 100 layers on the frame image!!

I also got the gigantic manual for it and all I can say is-- I doubt I'm going to read it-i think I will just try to figure it out. I have a ton of ideas and an ephemera collection to photograph so this is going to be a fun new direction for me.

A Pretty Little Christmas!!

Today is the Blog Party for A Pretty Little Christmas so in honor of it I am putting some pictures of my decor for this year. I really didn't have the energy or the $$$ to do too much this year so I kept it simple. The family tree is the white one with all of the kids ornaments and favorite colors as well as my more traditional tree in green and red by the hallway. The gift boxes are all going to remain empty until Christmas Eve because our curious kids pick them open and peek every year, so this year it will be a real SURPRISE!! hahaha!

I wish I had more time to put up more pictures but there aren't enough hours in the day for me, maybe in 2009 I will start a flicker account so I can share more everyday pics with everyone.

Allow me to introduce to you Ms. Whisolbautum. She is and has been a social worker for orphans for as far back as she can remember, which doesn't say much since she has dementia and is forgetful. Ms. Whisolbautum suffers from cataracts and is hard of hearing but she is unaware of this.

She is applying for work at MRSBO's in order to transfer her cases and maybe have better luck. For some unknown reason she has had several unfortunate incidents and accidents in her former orphanage. Also, her "precious" and "charismatic" orphans keep getting returned to her after just a few short days. She believes this is the result of living in an unsafe neighborhood filled with irresponsible uncaring adults.

Ms. Whisolbautum has never married, there was no time for this. She had too many cats to raise and her duty and responsibility is and has always been to help the children. She won't retire until all of her orphans have been adopted...Unfortunately she isn't aware of the year and with her cataracts she can't tell that she keeps being given new children. And just between you and I--She also doesn't realize that out of the 50 years she has been working, she hasn't had a raise in 47 of those years! This makes her a highly desirable candidate for employment.

She will begin introducing the orphans as soon as she finds employment and is settled in somewhere safe.

first off, let me just say-I am electronically challenged!!

that includes phones, cameras, DVR, MAC, etc. If it has a battery or a plug I will mess it up.

So with that said...

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but when I try to enlarge the pictures I post, it doesn't work! If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know. Thanks

I know i need lessons on all things listed above but my poor kids just don't have the time or patience to deal with my extremely short attention span and outrageous hypothetical situations.

I have had a really busy week and weekend so I didn't get to work on too much. But here is a sampling of what I HAVE been able to do.

This is for my daughter I used the girl in pencil image and tweaked it a bit, its acrylic and pencil on wood--she loves anime and bright colors. SORRY for pics, I need photo lessons.

If any of you have any ideas for photographing drawings or paintings in low light without a flash please inform me, my pictures with flash kill the image and without it they are blurry.

I had to scan the pencil girl and it comes out awful! It looks like grey paper-it's actually white.

I would like to sell on ETSY but I want to offer the best quality I can (in paper and printing), so if anyone has any advice, I am listening.

WOW, I can't believe its almost Thanksgiving! I still have so much work to do. Here is a sneak peak at the Virgin Mary's idea board, and some other things I made like the victorian lady head and Yes, I make stuffed animals too.

Hi Everyone!

I'm still working on my commission-

Its going to be my interpretation of the crying Virgin Mary (La Virgencita) with some red roses. The daughter requested it for her mom as a gift. I loved looking up images of Mary. She has been depicted by so many artists throughout history, at so many different ages and in so many different styles. I have done angels in the past but this is going to be my first religious Icon. I am already having fun gathering the materials. I will post some pics this weekend.

P.S. For all of you Tim Burton fans out there, this is the new Alice in Wonderland. I can't wait to see her and Johnny Depp in this remake.

I figured since I show my sculptures here, I should also show my other work as well. I do some paintings from time to time and these are some of the sketches in my journal. When I finally sketch one I love then I paint it. The bottom one is currently being made into a painting, I loved her pose and expression. Hi Everyone, Happy November!

Here are some pics of my almost completed little "Pirate Girl"

Like all of my girls, she's caught in that amazing age just before you lose your innocence and where magic and make believe are still possible.

All of the fabrics, new and vintage, have been aged and distressed except for the lace fingerless gloves, that lace is almost 100 years old and VERY delicate so I left it alone.

She wears a white dress and matching pantaloons and wears a blue tulle and wool shawl

that wraps around her shoulders.

Her hair is tibetan lamb and was hand dyed by me. She is made of a blend of polymer clays and a sturdy wire armature and then is lightly blushed all over even her fingertips. She has freckles and hand painted dark glass eyes.

I added a few more details on her hat, some feathers and fabric

of course!

This doll is for Giovanna, thanks for giving me extra time to TRY to photograph her.

This is my take on Alice, at least a dark sad version of her, hence the blues. She longs to escape Wonderland but then realizes that it isn't a place she is trapped in, it's her mind. Will she ever find her way home?

FYI, there is usually a meaning behind many of the items I make;). I love using colors as emotions and I am a HUGE Jung fan. His works have had a great influence on my works. Her little top hat has several different bird feathers, even crow.

**Sorry for the quality of the pictures, my camera is having a FOCUS issue. But I wanted to get the pics up anyway.

PARENTS TAKE HEED

This creepy cutie is Emily-Louise.

She died.....of embarrassment.

After a rather rough start at her new school Emy-Lou was finally starting to fit in. She was invited to a social gathering at the most popular girls house.

She carefully picked out her outfit and practiced the witty things she would say.

The day finally arrived and everything was going just as planned, when out of nowhere

Emy-Lou's PARENTS showed up!!

They thought it would be nice to meet Emy-Lou's new little friends and spend some time with them.

Emy-Lou felt a rush of heat rising up in her as her parents blurted out all of her secrets and then asked her to wear the hat they had bought for her while traveling abroad.

They thought she was just the cutest thing!!

As the guests and the hostess stared in disbelief

Emy-Lou could feel the life slipping right out of her.

Next thing she knew, she was a ghost.

And to her horror she was still wearing the hat!!!

OOPS! I BURNT MY HANDS!!

This is the easiest and fastest method for me to make hands when the doll is very small or when I don't feel the doll needs a hand armature.

1-I start with 2 small squares of clay for the palm.

2-I roll out a long thin piece of clay for the fingers, then cut 2 sets of four fingers.

3-I attach the the middle finger first then index, 3rd and pinky.

4-Next is the thumb which I make sort of a teardrop shape and attach to hand.

5-I mark 2 straight lines as the sides of the fingernails with a needle and then do the rounded part on top.

6-Bake according to clay you use---but BEWARE-if you walk away from the oven the little hands will burn!!

7-Once cooled you can blush with artists pigments, acrylic washes, heat set oils or whatever make up you want to use.

REMEMBER- This is just one of the ways I make hands, there are many different ways to do it, so just have fun!

I have been really busy so I haven't updated my work yet. I just got a chance to unload some pics of my trip to Disney. They have the cutest fall decorations, I love all of the colors. The weather was extremely hot as usual but I really enjoyed the food festival they had going on. There was an Alice in Wonderland thing happening too. I LOVE DISNEY.

I have made an effort to keep my studio clean and tidy but its very hard when you're trying to find just the right color of mohair or the right fabrics or the right colors of clay to mix. I love the process but I don't like the picking up and putting everything back---I work messy! Here are some heads and bits and body parts I found around my desk, I'll call it the doll cemetery. Also those are some eye colors I have been working on. The body with the drawings on it is my guide for errors in anatomy that I tend to make if I am focused on just one body part at a time. This helps me remember.

This week I joined Artsy Mama's Sweet and Sinister blog. I love the things that they are making and it is inspiring my creepy side. I can't wait to get started on my own take of the projects. Don't get me wrong- I love pink and teal and sculpting beautiful victorian fairies and dolls but I have a weakness for the strange and unusual. I think this came about because in he past when I was hired or commissioned to make or paint something, it has always been "pretty", it isn't very often I get to break free and make some "creepy cuties" so this is a great place to do it. Thanks Artsy Mama for putting it together!!
